Pulled a used comm radio off a wrecked 172 or paid full price for a new one
Back in March I had to choose between a used comm radio pulled from a wrecked 172 at a shop in Tulsa for $600 or a new one at full price, and I went with the used unit to save the money. It bench checked clean but two months later it started dropping frequencies on the ramp at Riverside, so I ate the cost of pulling it and shipping it back for repair. For those of you buying used avionics, do you always ask for the removal log or just trust the bench tag?
