Had a pitot static line go bad on a King Air 200 at 6am in Casper and I'm still bugged by what caused it
Pulled into the hangar Tuesday morning in Casper and the crew chief flagged me over to a King Air 200 that had a pitot heat annunciator flickering on the left side. I pulled the panel and started chasing the wire from the pitot mast back to the breaker and found the insulation rubbed clean through about 8 inches from a clamp I know I torqued myself back in March. The weird part is I used a rag to check clearance when I buttoned it up, so it wasn't touching at the time. Spent about 3 hours on it, replaced the wire section, replaced the clamp with a cushioned one, and the annunciator tested clean on the ramp. I keep going back and forth on whether the airframe vibration slowly pulled it or if I just missed something small that day. The owner was cool about it and paid the extra hours without a fuss, but it's eating at me. Anybody else had a wire that looked fine on install and then rubbed through a few months later? Trying to figure out if I need to start adding more slack on these runs.
