3 years ago I could not read a wiring diagram to save my life, today I traced and fixed an intermittent GPS drop in a King Air
Three years ago I was the new guy at a shop in Wichita and I could not read a wiring diagram to save my life. I mean I could match lines to pins but I had no clue how to actually follow a signal path through a connector. Last Tuesday I pulled a King Air 200 into the hangar because the GPS kept dropping out in flight. The pilot kept saying it was random. Took me about 5 hours with a breakout box and a lot of coffee but I found a chafed wire behind the panel where a bundle was rubbing a bracket. Replaced the section, re-routed it with a new clamp, and flew a test leg with the pilot. No drops the whole time. Feels good to actually know what I'm doing now compared to 3 years ago. Has anyone else dealt with a GPS that drops only in certain banks? I want to know if that chafe was the real cause or if there's something else I should look at.
