Why does nobody warn you about aftermarket warranty fine print

My 2018 Subaru Outback's transmission started slipping near Denver on I-70 last October. Called the warranty company I paid $2,800 for and they said repairs aren't covered if the car has over 60,000 miles - mine had 62,000. Ended up paying $4,500 out of pocket at a local shop. Has anyone else gotten burned by mileage limits they didn't catch?

I had almost the exact same thing happen with my 2017 Ford Explorer. I paid $3,200 for a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty and my transmission went out at 64,000 miles. The fine print said "act of God" exclusions too, so when my AC compressor failed at 58,000 miles they denied it because of a hailstorm that wasn't even in my area. I ended up having to sue them in small claims court and won, but it took 8 months. The worst part is when I read the contract closely, the mileage limit was buried on page 14 in a smaller font than everything else.

@susanh46 buried terms are a total scam, and your story proves it. The mileage cap on page 14 is textbook deceptive, and that "act of God" loophole for a storm that wasn't even near you is nuts. Have you seen any of those class action lawsuits against warranty companies for fine print tricks like that?
