The $80 code scanner I doubted just found a $600 problem
I bought one of those cheap OBD2 scanners off Amazon mostly to settle an argument with my buddy about a check engine light. Turns out my 2014 F-150 in Tulsa had a bad purge valve, not the transmission issue I was panicking about. The dealership quoted me $600 to replace it, I did it myself for $35 in parts in my driveway. Has anyone else had a budget tool pay for itself that fast?

Ha, I once used a $20 code reader to diagnose a misfire and ended up fixing it with a $4 spark plug boot. I felt like a genius for about 30 seconds, then remembered I still can't change my own oil without YouTube.
