Extended warranty debate after my alternator died on I-75

I was cruising down I-75 near Atlanta last month when my battery light came on and then my radio started flickering. Pulled over at a rest stop and barely made it to a shop where they said the alternator was shot and the repair was $620. Now I'm wondering if that extended warranty I passed on would have saved me money or if it's just another way for dealers to make cash. Anyone else ever run the numbers on those aftermarket warranties and feel like you either got robbed or saved?

Extended warranty I passed on" - nah you dodged a bullet. Those plans are mostly scams tbh.

Laugh every time I see those ads with the robot voice screaming about "manufacturer's warranty expiring soon." Like yeah, I know, that's why I saved up for a reliable car instead of relying on some sketchy third party to maybe cover a transmission replacement after I pay them $150 a month for three years. My buddy fell for one of those plans on his used SUV, tried to file a claim when the AC died and they said it was a "pre-existing condition" even though he bought the coverage like two weeks after getting the car. Real helpful, guys.
