The week I had to fix three different cars with the same stupid plastic coolant connector

Monday started with a 2014 Ford Escape pouring coolant in my bay. The plastic T connector on the heater hose was cracked. By Wednesday, I had a Chevy Equinox and a Dodge Journey with the exact same failure. Each one took me over an hour just to get to the part because of how they buried it. Has anyone else seen this specific part fail so often, or did I just get unlucky?

Actually that plastic connector is a smart design choice. It's cheap to make and saves weight, which helps with fuel economy. If it cracks, it's a simple swap and acts like a fuse to prevent bigger engine damage. You probably just hit a weird streak with those three cars. Most of those parts last the life of the vehicle without any trouble.

Remember my buddy's old Malibu? That plastic piece cracked on the highway... dumped all the coolant out before he could pull over. He said the tow cost more than the part, which is just sad.
