Spent 2 years using the wrong gun angle on jambs

I was at a shop in Dayton last month and the old timer next to me watched me paint a door jamb. He just said 'you're spraying at 90 degrees like it's a flat panel, flip it to 45' and walked off. Turns out all my orange peel on jambs was from my gun angle, not my mix or air pressure. Tried it on the next car and the texture laid down perfect. Has anyone else had a basic habit someone casually pointed out that changed everything?

Three years of painting and I had the same thing happen with my clear coat on fenders. A guy at a car show watched me for two minutes and said my wrist was locked, I was moving my whole arm like a robot. He was right, I looked like a windup toy losing a fight. I loosened up and it was like the paint finally decided to cooperate with me. Good reminder that the most obvious thing is usually the thing we're doing wrong. Now I just try not to think about how many headlights I ruined with that stiff-wrist nonsense.

Guessing the 45 works better on narrow faces too since it spreads the fan out more evenly.
