Overheard a guy at the NAPA in Spokane say he never uses a tack cloth before basecoat

He was telling the counter guy that a clean microfiber with wax and grease remover is just as good and saves cash. I tried it on a Honda Civic fender repair last week and the finish was perfect, no fisheyes. Has anyone else dropped the tack cloth step for certain jobs?

Tack cloths are basically free though.

Where are you finding free tack cloths? The ones at my hardware store are a few bucks each.
