My uncle said to always use a guide coat on filler, I thought it was extra work for nothing.

He showed me on a quarter panel job last week, and after blocking it down, I could see every single low spot I missed. Do you guys use guide coats on every repair, or just the tricky ones?

Yeah, it feels like extra work until you see the results. That guide coat shows you the truth before primer, saving way more time fixing it later. I use it on everything now, no exceptions.

Oh man, I was the same way! I skipped it for years thinking it was a waste. Then I tried it on a door skin and it showed me a low spot I would have totally missed. Now I won't touch filler without it.
