Why does nobody talk about how bad cheap caulk guns ruin a whole afternoon?

I was patching around a skylight on a house in Portland two weeks ago and my $8 caulk gun kept slipping, making a huge mess on the flashing. I ended up spending 45 minutes scraping off old caulk and redoing the bead because the gun wouldn't hold steady pressure. Has anyone else found a caulk gun under $20 that actually works without fighting you the whole time?

Man that sucks, I feel your pain. Had the same thing happen last month on a bathroom vent pipe where the cheap gun just randomly shot out a blob of caulk right as I got to the corner. Whole bead ruined and I had to scrape it all off too. Honestly anything under $20 is a gamble, but I found a solid one at Ace for like $18 that has a real smooth release trigger, haven't had issues since.

A buddy of mine had that exact same blob issue caulking his baseboards and nearly threw the gun across the room.
