The old recipe box setup still beats my phone app

My grandma gave me her index card box from 1978 with all her handwritten recipes, and I kept it on the shelf for years. Last weekend I tried to follow her pot roast card while my phone sat next to me, and I realized the app kept auto-correcting 'splash of vinegar' and I lost my place three times. She would write little notes like 'use the cheap red wine' and 'if it boils, add 10 minutes and walk away', stuff no app ever includes. I switched back to the cards and dinner came out perfect, no glowing rectangle in my face. Anyone else ditched digital for paper notes on something simple like this?

One small thing though, that app probably wasn't auto-correcting your words, it was more likely changing how it displayed them, like autocapitalizing or fixing spelling. Most recipe apps don't touch what you type unless you're using a keyboard feature you turned on. But your main point stands, those handwritten notes are gold, especially the ones about the cheap wine and walking away. That little personal stuff is exactly what makes a recipe yours versus just a list of steps. My own kitchen has a grease stained notebook full of scribbles from my mom and I would never trade it for a screen. Paper just doesn't glare at you or run out of battery when you're mid simmer.
