That video store from my youth is now a juice bar.
I saw it on my route through Ohio last month. It made me think about how places become different. What differences have you seen where you live?

Read this article about dead malls being turned into community colleges or medical centers. It's wild how these huge empty spaces get a second life. Jasons93 has a point that a new business beats a vacant building any day, but man it's weird when your whole childhood landscape gets replaced. The bowling alley where I had my birthday parties is a self storage place now.

Sure it's better than a vacant building, but let's be real. A self storage place or a medical center doesn't bring any life to a neighborhood. It's just a different kind of dead space, only open during business hours. The soul of a place matters, and you can't replace a bowling alley full of kids with a hallway of storage lockers. Feels like we're just trading one kind of empty for another.

Actually kind of glad to see new stuff pop up. That old video store was probably sitting empty for years. A juice bar means someone's trying to start a business, and maybe it's a better spot for people to hang out now. It's just change, not always bad.
