Question about the way we're digging up ancient cities now

I joined a dig in Turkey last summer, and the whole process felt too slow and careful. We spent days documenting every little piece before moving anything, which just kills the excitement. Honestly, if we keep this up, we'll never get to the good stuff before sites get destroyed by weather or looters. Speed matters sometimes, not just perfect records. Let's actually find things before it's too late.

Working on a Roman villa dig in Spain, we had the same problem with the pace feeling painfully slow. We started using a simple photo grid method with basic drones to snap quick pics of each layer before touching anything. It let us speed up the recording part and still keep good records for later study. Honestly, getting that setup right meant we could dig more each day and actually reach the deeper, interesting layers before the season ended. You just have to find those small tricks that save time without cutting corners on the important stuff.

I mean, we once rushed and cracked a vase, pretty frustrating.

Try a photo grid with a drone, it speeds things up a lot.
