PSA: Asking an old timer at the coffee shop pointed us to a new dig site
I was having coffee near a potential dig area and got talking to a regular who's lived there forever. He recalled kids finding arrowheads in a creek bed back in the day, a spot not on any maps. We followed his directions and located a scatter of lithic flakes right away. Have you ever gotten a good lead just by being friendly to people around town?

Is that really a PSA or just a cool find?

Yeah, both. I mean, when you say "just a cool find," it downplays how local tips are gold. Idk, maybe it's just me but chatting up old timers has led me to spots I'd never find on maps. That's a public service reminder to talk to people, so PSA fits. Plus, finding flakes right away? That's definitely cool.

Chatting up old timers doesn't always work out like that. I once spent a whole afternoon looking for a "secret cave" some guy at a diner swore was behind the old mill. Turns out it was just a weird shadow on a rock wall. Still, you gotta love the stories people carry around.
