Found a Roman coin in my garden in Bath, then the museum told me the real story
I was digging a new bed for tomatoes behind my house in Bath back in April and pulled up a small green disc about the size of a thumbnail. I figured it was a washer or some junk, so I tossed it in a jar on the windowsill for six weeks. When I finally took it to the Roman Baths museum, a woman named Helen looked at it under a lamp and said it was a 4th century nummus, worn smooth from handling. What got me was her next line: coins like that were so common that people dropped them and did not bother picking them up. Has anyone else had a garden find that turned out to be way older than they guessed?
