Vent: Girdling roots are taking down healthy trees in my city
I was inspecting some park trees yesterday and found three with severe girdling roots. This happens when trees are planted in tight spaces or with bad soil. It cuts off nutrients and water, so the tree slowly dies. We should push for wider planting beds and proper root care. Are you seeing more of this where you work?

Make sure new tree plans include checking for girdling roots from the start. It's cheaper to fix them early than replace dead trees later. We could save a lot of trees (and city funds) with this simple step.

Three trees in one park... that's just shocking. I can't believe how often this happens now. William66 has a point about checking from the start, but it seems like the city plants them and forgets. The roots get strangled because the beds are too small, and then it's too late. We have to do better or we'll keep losing good trees for no reason.
