The $40 cambium saver I ignored for years finally paid off

I always thought those rope sleeve things were a gimmick, so I just ran my climbing line straight over limbs. After a sketchy removal in Portland last month where my rope almost cut through some soft bark, I borrowed a buddy's cambium saver and the difference in friction control was night and day. Has anyone else switched late and noticed less wear on their gear?

Next you'll tell me brake pads are worth buying too. Meanwhile my ropes are looking like a frayed dog toy.
