That old timer told me to skip the wedge, I shouldve listened
Last week a retired climber watched me set a wedge in a leaner and just shook his head, said that tree wants to go the other way so trust it. I ignored him, the bar pinched so bad it took 2 hours and a come-along to get free. Anyone else ever get saved or screwed by some random bystanders advice?

Oh man, been there and it still stings lol. I had this older guy at the trailhead tell me not to bother with a face cut on this dead oak because the wind was pushing it toward the road. I was all "I got this, thanks gramps" and sure enough that thing sat back on the bar so hard I thought my saw was gonna snap. Took me and my buddy an entire afternoon with a farm jack and lots of cussing to get it out. Now if someone older with sawdust on their jacket gives me a tip, I at least stop and think about it before I act like a know-it-all. That free advice is usually worth more than the gear I bought, honestly.
