Shoutout to the random homeowner who "trimmed" his own oak

I was driving through a neighborhood in Albany yesterday and saw this massive red oak that someone clearly took a saw to themselves. They cut off like 5 major limbs on one side, all leaving these huge stubs with no collar cuts. I could see where the bark was already peeling back on a couple of them. It got me thinking about how many times I've rolled up to a cleanup job where the owner "just wanted to save some money" and ended up with a tree that's gonna rot out in 3 years. I get it, tree work is expensive. But does nobody watch a single YouTube video before they start hacking away at something that could crush their house? Has anyone else had to fix a DIY tree butcher job that turned into a bigger mess than if they'd just called you first?

Cringed so hard reading about those collar cuts lol. Like that's tree-care 101 stuff and you just KNOW that thing is gonna be a hazard in a few years. Bark peeling back is basically the tree screaming for help. I get wanting to save a buck but this is how you end up paying triple later when a storm takes a rotten limb through your living room window. Honestly some people have way too much confidence with power tools and zero respect for biology. It's painful to drive past those butcher jobs knowing exactly what's coming next.
