Showerthought: a $12 analog thermometer caught what my $200 IR gun kept missing on fridge calls
Did 4 sealed system calls in Tucson last month where my IR gun read the evaporator 15 degrees warmer than it actually was, so I kept adding charge until a old timer handed me his cheap dial thermometer and it showed I was already 5 degrees over. The IR gun reads whatever surface it feels like, and on a frosty coil that's not the coil temp at all. What are you all using to verify superheat when the coil is iced up?
