Noticed a huge shift in GE washer drain pumps over the last 5 years

I've been repairing washers for about 8 years now and GE drain pumps used to be bulletproof. The ones from 2015-2018 would run for years with no issue. Now I'm swapping out at least 3 a month on units from 2020 onward. The new ones just seize up way faster. Has anyone else seen this quality drop or is it just my area in Phoenix?

You bet I've seen it. Been in this trade over twenty years and GE's current drain pumps are nowhere near what they used to be. The old ones would run forever, these new ones lock up after a year or two if you're lucky. It's not just Phoenix either, I hear the same complaints from guys all over the country. Seems like they switched to cheaper bearings and plastic parts to save a buck.

Read a repair forum where a guy proved they're using the SAME motors as a cheap off-brand now.
