Hit 500 dryer repairs in 2 years and it still surprises me

I started doing appliance repair full time about 2 years ago after doing it on the side. Last week I rolled over 500 dryer repairs exactly. That's roughly 4 a week which doesnt sound huge but when you add up all the belt replacements and thermal fuses it really adds up. The thing that gets me is how many people just toss their dryer and buy new when its almost always a $15 part. Anyone else keep a running count of their repairs or just me?

That thermal fuse and belt combo is the bread and butter of dryer repairs for sure. A lot of people don't realize they can usually fix it themselves with a screwdriver and a YouTube video. One thing that gets overlooked is checking the vent hose for lint buildup before blaming the dryer itself. I've seen so many perfectly good machines get trashed just because the airflow was blocked. Also don't forget to clean the moisture sensor bars on the drum if the dryer keeps running too long, that trips people up too.

Gotta disagree on the moisture sensor bars though. Most dryers those days use a different type of sensor that's built into the control board, not something you scrub off. Cleaning them can actually mess up the whole board if you're not careful. Better to just run a sensor test cycle first or check the manual before you start scraping stuff.
