Found a trick for stuck ice maker augers after 4 hours of frustration

Had a GE fridge where the ice maker auger kept binding up. Took the whole assembly apart, cleaned everything, still jammed. Found out if you flip the little plastic drive coupler 180 degrees it catches fresh teeth and works perfect. Anybody else ran into that or just me?

Wait, you seriously just flipped the drive coupler 180 degrees and it fixed it? That's wild, I spent like three hours wrestling with my old Whirlpool auger and never thought to try that. I guess those plastic teeth wear down on one side over time, so flipping them gives you a fresh set of grip without buying anything.

Dang, @johnson.ryan, you're bringing back memories. I did that exact same thing on a Kenmore stackable a few years back, but I only found out about it because my neighbor's uncle who used to work at a laundromat told me the trick. Funny enough, I'd already ordered a replacement coupler online, but by the time it showed up the flipped one was still working fine so I just kept it like that for another year. Those plastic teeth really do wear down unevenly, especially if the machine's a little unbalanced from the start. I still have that spare coupler sitting in a drawer somewhere, probably should just toss it at this point.
