Rant: Found out my old Commodore 64 disk drive runs faster upside down
So I was tinkering with my C64 last night and stumbled on some old forum posts saying the 1541 drive actually works better if you flip it over. I tried it and yeah, it read a cracked copy of Ultima IV in like half the time. But then part of me wonders if that's just messing up the alignment for good. Anyone else heard this trick or am I slowly killing my drive?

Flipping it works but you're definitely messing with the alignment for good.

Actually that "messing with the alignment" part is worth thinking about more. If your frame is even slightly twisted from the flip, the whole wheel could end up cockeyed and wear weird on one side. But most people just check the toe afterward and call it good.
