Debate: Recapping old monitors vs just buying a newer one

I picked up a 1998 Sony Trinitron from a garage sale for 15 bucks. It looked fine but the picture had some wavy lines and the colors were weak. So I had to decide: crack it open and recap the whole board, or just hunt down a newer monitor from the early 2000s. I went with the recap because I read it keeps the original tube performance. Took me about 3 hours with a cheap soldering iron from Harbor Freight. The wavy lines went away but now I got a faint high pitched whine from the flyback transformer. Was that worth the trouble or should I have just spent 50 bucks on a later model? Anyone else gone down this road and regretted it?

Dude that whine is so annoying lol I did the same thing with a Dell P991 and the high pitched noise drove me nuts until I swapped the caps around the flyback again. Totally worth it though for the image quality, those old Trinitrons just hit different.
