Appreciation post: Restoring a broken Walkman showed me how to unplug
Found my dad's cassette player in a box, all gummed up from old batteries. Spending hours cleaning gears and replacing the belt made me forget my phone for once. Back then, music was something you held and fixed, not just streamed. That hands-on tinkering does more for my headspace than any meditation video. It's not about the music, it's about the quiet hum of getting something working again. Sure, it's obsolete, but finishing it gave me a real sense of peace. Kinda funny that a device meant for noise ended up giving me silence.

Heard a podcast say fixing old tech is the new meditation.

Is every hobby now some kind of deep life practice? It's cool to fix an old radio, but calling it meditation feels like we're trying too hard to make normal stuff sound meaningful. Sometimes a project is just a project, not a path to inner peace. It's okay for things to just be a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Actually, I get what the original post is saying. That total focus you get when your hands are busy fixing something small, it really does shut off the noise in your head. Scrolling on my phone never does that. It's not just a project, it's a different kind of focus that feels empty in a good way.
