Stopped watching recaps before new episodes and the shows finally clicked
For about 2 seasons of anything long like One Piece I always watched a 10 minute recap video first so I would not feel lost. Last spring I quit cold and just started the next episode blind. Turns out the recaps were spoon feeding me stuff the show already says out loud, and I was paying less attention to the actual episodes. Now I catch small details I used to miss, like a side character's face in the background. Has anyone else dropped recap videos and felt like the pacing got better?
A buddy of mine did the same thing with Naruto and said the fights stopped feeling like homework. He actually got mad at himself for wasting all that time on recaps that just repeated the last two minutes of the episode. The pacing feels faster when your brain has to do a little work instead of getting fed the plot twice.
