Just found out the original Dragon Ball had a 2-year gap in the dub

I was digging through old forum archives last night looking for rumors about the Buu saga. Then I stumbled on a post from 2003 that mentioned Funimation didn't license the first 13 episodes until like 1995. But here's the thing - there was almost a 2 year gap between when they dubbed those and when they picked up the rest. I had no idea the early Z dub was so rushed because they were playing catch up. Has anyone else found weird gaps like this in other classic series?

Honestly I think it's less about dubbing taking longer and more about Funimation just not knowing what they had yet. They were a tiny company back then, probably didn't think DB would blow up like it did. Once they saw the hype for Z they scrambled to catch up and basically gutted the original series. That gap was them playing business catch up, not just technical limitations. Ngl the whole early DB dub history is way messier than most people realize.

Wait, wasn't that gap just because dubbing took longer back then?
