Spent $45 on a 'film rescue' kit from a guy in Tampa, and all it did was turn my negatives pink
Saw some dude on a Facebook group say his kit could fix water damage and scratches for just $45, so I mailed him my grandpa's negatives from a 1962 trip to Miami. Three weeks later I got them back pink as a flamingo with the scratches still there, and he stopped replying to my messages. Anyone got a real method for water damaged negs, or did I just pay $45 for a lesson in trusting strangers?
Oof, that pink tint means the dye layers got cooked, and once that happens there's no bringing them back, so I hope you got the negs back at least. For the future, water damage cleanup is something you can do at home: soak the negs in distilled water with a tiny bit of Photo-Flo for about 10 minutes, then hang them to dry in a dust free spot with a clip on one corner. Scratches are a whole other thing though, that's usually a pro scan and edit job, not a chemical fix, so that guy was selling you a fantasy either way.
