Unpopular opinion: My old boss was right about always using a toner on new runs

Honestly, I thought it was a waste of time for years, just poking around with a meter. He made me use a toner on every fresh wire pull in a big office job in Phoenix. Ngl, I tagged a whole panel wrong once and spent half a day fixing it because I skipped the toner step. Now I won't even hook up a sensor without toning it out first. Anyone else have a simple tool they fought against that saved their butt?

My uncle was a master electrician in Tampa. He told me a story about a three story condo rewire where two guys didn't tone a new home run bundle. They landed everything live and it took them two full days just to find where all the kitchen circuits actually went in the attic spaghetti. That story alone made me buy a decent toner.

That toner pays for itself the first time you avoid a day of attic spelunking. Good call.
