Panel installers swear by the 84 inch height, I've been putting keypads at 48 for 3 years and zero callbacks
Three years back I took over a batch of new construction homes in Tulsa and the builder's super told me to mount every keypad at whatever height the electricians left the boxes, which worked out to about 48 inches off the floor. Everyone in the trade says that's wrong and it should be 84 for the average adult, but I've done roughly 600 homes that way and not one homeowner has complained. Kids can reach it, wheelchair users can reach it, and folks coming in with groceries can hit the buttons without lifting their arm. Am I missing some code issue here, or is the 84 inch rule just something we all repeat because a trainer said it once?
