Finally bought a proper cable toner after years of guessing
Dropped about $180 on a Klein Tools VDV500-820 last month. Had a job in a 70s house with a rat's nest of old phone and alarm wires in the basement. Instead of spending hours pulling and testing, I toned out the right pair in maybe ten minutes. It paid for itself on that one call. Anyone have a favorite toner for newer Cat6 stuff?

That 70s house basement sounds like a nightmare... I gotta ask though, how bad was the rat nest actually? Like was it just loose wires everywhere or did they use the old school cloth covered stuff that crumbles when you touch it? I ran into a house last year with that cloth stuff and it was a disaster, half the wires were just dead from age so even a toner couldnt help.
