A customer in Phoenix told me her cat kept setting off the motion sensor, and I finally looked up how often that really happens
I was on a service call in Phoenix last month and this lady swore her cat was tripping her motion detector every night around 3am, so I looked it up and found out that pet immune sensors usually only work for animals under 40 pounds. Turns out her cat was 22 pounds and the sensor was mounted way too low, so I moved it up and the calls stopped. How many of you actually check the pet weight rating before you mount a motion, or do you just slap it up there and hope for the best?
I mean this is the same thing as people who never read the manual for anything, they just assume they already know how it works. Pet immune sensors get sold as "pet immune" and nobody reads the fine print about the weight limit so of course the cat trips it. It's like when someone buys a "waterproof" phone case and then takes it swimming, the label mattered the whole time. And mounting height is on the box too but nobody looks. We do this with everything, read reviews before we buy but never the actual instructions after. My guess is half the "my sensor is haunted" calls out there are just a cat or a dog or curtains moving, not anything actually wrong with the unit.
