Snap-on torque wrench calibration cost me, now I check before I trust it

I spent $180 getting my old Snap-on click-type torque wrench calibrated at a shop in Phoenix last month. Turned out it was reading about 8 foot-pounds high at the 40-60 range, which is a big deal on engine hardware. I had been torquing cylinder head bolts with that thing for over a year before I decided to check it. That error could have caused a major come-back, so the money was worth it, but it burned me on the time I lost trusting it. Now I keep a log of when each wrench gets tested and I rotate between two cheaper digitals for most jobs. Does anyone else send their torque tools out on a regular schedule, or do you just wait until something feels off?
