I finally stopped using my old 3/8 drive for everything after a stripped bolt on a Cessna 172 cowling cost me an extra hour.
Now I grab the 1/4 inch first for anything under a quarter inch, which my lead at the FBO in Boise showed me after he saw me struggling.

Yeah that "grab the 1/4 inch first" rule is a game changer. I used to just muscle everything with a 3/8 drive and a cheater bar. Now I keep a 1/4 inch ratchet right on top of my box for all the small stuff, especially on panel screws and cowlings. It saves so much time and you don't risk rounding off those soft aluminum bolts. My old habit cost me a few fasteners before I learned.

Right on, @sam530, that rule saves so much hassle.
