Am I the only one who thinks the 'AI will take all coding jobs' stat is overblown?
I read a report from Stack Overflow's 2024 survey that said only 43% of devs actually trust AI answers, and that number dropped from 2023. Everyone keeps saying AI is replacing programmers, but the devs I know in Austin still spend most of their time fixing what Copilot spits out. Has anyone else seen the trust numbers going down instead of up?
That 43% number tracks with what I see too. Our team of 8 devs in Denver basically treats Copilot like a first draft machine, half the suggestions get tossed or rewritten because they miss edge cases or straight up make up library calls that don't exist. Last month I spent a whole afternoon just undoing bad autocomplete on a refactor that would've taken 20 minutes by hand. The trust drop makes sense, people played with it, got burned a few times, and now they're more careful.
