Three years ago, my friend in Seattle sold a painting for $500. Last week, an AI made a picture just like it.
He spent months on that landscape, mixing oils and building up layers. The AI version took a prompt and about 30 seconds to make something you could hardly tell apart. It makes you wonder what all that time and skill is for now. Has anyone else seen AI copy a real artist's style this closely?

Pipera50 nailed it with that $500 thing. That's the soul crushing part - someone's months of actual human effort valued at less than what you'd pay for a decent dinner out, while the AI version cost basically nothing and took no time at all. It really makes you question if we're valuing the wrong things.

Wait, $500? That's the part that gets me. He sold it for that little after all that work. Now an AI can spit out a copy for basically free. It's like the time and the materials and the skill don't mean anything anymore. Just feels wrong.
