Three years ago I hated AI art. Last week I sold a piece on Etsy.
Back in 2021 I was one of those people arguing AI art was just stealing from real artists. I drew by hand since high school, felt like the tech was cheating. Then my sister got me a tablet for Christmas 2023 and I started messing with Stable Diffusion just to prove it sucked. Couldnt get a single good prompt for months. Then last month I spent a whole weekend feeding it my old sketches and tweaking the settings until it made something that actually looked like my style. Put it up on Etsy as a joke. Someone bought it for 45 bucks last Tuesday. I still draw by hand but now I see the AI as just another brush. Does using a power saw make you not a carpenter?

@piper175 makes a good point, but what counts as "boring parts" exactly?

Honestly the whole debate reminds me of how people acted when GPS phones first came out. Remember when everyone said real drivers didnt need a robot telling them where to go? Now nobody folds a map. Same thing with washing machines - my grandma swore hand-washing clothes was the only proper way, then she got arthritis and suddenly the machine was fine. Tools change and people adapt, thats just how it goes. Youre still the one making the creative choices, the AI is just doing the boring parts faster.
