My AI-generated photo of Mount Fuji sparked a nasty debate in my group
I used an AI tool to make a picture of Mount Fuji based on my memories from last year. The image came out stunning, with perfect cherry blossoms and a clear sky. I was proud and shared it online, thinking it was a cool way to remember my trip. But then, people started arguing that it's not art at all because a machine made it. One friend said it has no soul since I didn't paint it myself. Another person claimed it's just data points, not creative expression. I feel frustrated because to me, it captures the feeling of being there better than any photo I took. Now every time I post something AI-made, it turns into a fight about what art is.

Look past the whole "who made it" thing and see what it actually does. AI is just a new kind of brush... a tool that lets people who can't paint or draw finally make the picture in their head real. The argument feels like gatekeeping, like saying only some people are allowed to make pretty things. Your memory and your choice to create that image is the real starting point, and that's got value too.

Calling it a new brush is kind of wild though. A brush doesn't work by mashing up a million other paintings. That part still matters to me.
