My 6-month AI art project got rejected by a gallery in Austin

I spent 6 months generating a series of dreamlike cityscapes with AI, printed them on canvas, and took them to a small gallery on East 6th Street in Austin. The owner looked at them for about 30 seconds and said, "These are cool, but I can't sell something a machine made without a human fingerprint." Has anyone else tried to pass AI work as traditional art in a physical space, or do we need to be upfront about the process from the start?

Used to think the process didn't matter, but now I see collectors pay for the human story behind the work.
