The peeling wallpaper trick I almost ignored saved my photos

I was shooting an old schoolhouse in upstate New York last fall and almost skipped the room with the sagging wallpaper. Then I noticed the light hitting it at 3 PM, creating these incredible shadows and textures. Anyone else find that stuff you think is boring ends up being the best shot of the day?

I used to be the same way, always chasing the grand landscapes and perfect golden hour. Then I was in this abandoned barn and the only thing worth shooting was this patch of peeling paint on a window frame, lit up by dust motes. Turned out way more interesting than the wide shots I spent all day on. Now I force myself to stop and look at the boring stuff first.
