Rant: that 1962 grain elevator tour nobody wanted to lead me on

Everyone posts the pretty shots of barns and mills, but I went to the old Bemis elevator outside Lincoln, Nebraska last Tuesday and the fence has been patched up since my 2021 visit. The caretaker actually chased me off before I could even get close, which is ironic since the place is literally falling apart. I get liability rules, but has anyone here actually gotten permission to explore a site that's still owned, or do you just trespass and accept the risk?

Bemis was actually built in 1930, not 1962. The elevator you're thinking of might be the one out by the old Gooch Mill, that one's from the 60s. I know because I spent way too much time one summer looking up Nebraska grain elevator dates for a photo project. Anyway, you're right about the fence, they patched it with that new chain link around 2022. As for permission, I've had luck calling the county assessor's office first. They'll usually tell you who holds the title, and sometimes the owner is just some LLC that doesn't care if you walk around as long as you don't go inside. Worst case they say no, but at least you tried the legal way before hopping a fence and getting a trespassing charge on a Sunday.
