Just fell through a rotten floor at an old church in Ohio

I was exploring this abandoned Methodist church outside Cincinnati last weekend. I stepped on what looked like solid floorboards but they gave way under my left foot. I went down about 2 feet before my camera bag caught on a joist and stopped me. Managed to pull myself out with just a bruised shin and ripped jeans. The floor was totally rotted through from years of water damage. Has anyone else had a close call like that where your gear saved you from worse?

Your camera bag saved you from becoming a human floor plug.

Two years ago I would have called you careless for even being in a place like that. But last fall my niece talked me into urbex with her and I got a similar reality check. I was poking around an old barn in Indiana and put my full weight on a beam that looked fine but just crumbled. My backpack with my laptop in it caught on a nail and kept me from dropping into a basement full of jagged metal scraps. It changed how I see safety gear now. That bag might have saved my leg from getting busted up pretty bad.
