Hot take: I used to think old factories were just rust and danger, but a trip to the old mill in Poughkeepsie changed my mind

Last month, I went to check out the abandoned textile mill by the river. I figured it would be the same old broken windows and graffiti. But the light that afternoon was something else. It came through these huge, busted skylights and hit the old, dusty weaving machines, making the whole floor look like it was covered in gold dust. I must have taken 80 photos just in that one room. You could still see the faded numbers painted on the floor where the workers stood. It wasn't just a dead building anymore; it felt like the place just paused for a second. I spent three hours there and only left because my phone died. Has anyone else had a spot that completely surprised them like that?

The old grain elevator in my hometown did that for me. I went in expecting a total wreck, but the way the concrete was worn smooth in the work paths told a whole story. It just felt quiet, not empty.

Wait, you spent three whole hours in there? That's wild. I would've been out after thirty minutes, tops. It must have been way more interesting than it sounds.
