Finally realized I was blocking all my good shots with my own shadow

I kept wondering why my photos inside an old grain mill looked so blown out until I noticed my silhouette was casting a hard shadow across the whole textured wall (doh). Has anyone else had a similar "move your feet first" moment with natural light in tight spaces?

Funny you mention that, because it’s actually the same reason I ended up shooting from a weird low angle against a metal beam. The shadow went away, but then the light bounced off the beam and lit up the wall in a way I hadn’t planned for. Sometimes moving your feet changes the whole mood of the shot, not just the exposure.
