We are dealing with some major drainage issues on our lot and also need to upgrade our underground power and water lines before adding a massive detached garage/workshop. The two companies that actually got back to me with decent proposals are CEI Excavating and Valley Trenching. Any strong opinions either way? It's a big project for us this spring 2026, so I don't want to mess it up.
Need advice: CEI Excavating or Valley Trenching for major drainage & utilities?

Log InI'd highly recommend CEI Excavating for anything involving complex utilities and drainage. They did the sewer and storm water tie-ins for my neighbor's custom build in Jan 2026 and the city inspector actually complimented their grading work. They really know what they're doing when it comes to site prep.
That's great to know, especially about the inspector complimenting them. Getting held up by inspections is my biggest fear right now. I think I'll sign the contract with CEI. Thanks for the input!
I got quotes from both of them for a foundation dig. Valley Trenching is okay if you just need a quick trench pulled, but their communication is pretty lacking. I had to call them three times just to get the initial estimate revised.
