The dryer sheet trick for baseboards backfired big time in my living room

I saw this hack online about rubbing dryer sheets on your baseboards to keep dust from sticking. Figured it would save me from dusting every week, so I tried it on the baseboards in my 800 square foot apartment near Portland. First two days it actually worked great, dust just slid off. But then the smell started getting really strong after like 5 days, like that fake floral scent just baked into the air and wouldn't leave. My girlfriend came home and asked if I spilled a whole bottle of perfume in there. Now I have to wipe all the baseboards down with vinegar water to kill the residue and the static is gone anyway. Has anyone else had that greasy film issue with laundry stuff on surfaces?

Oh MAN, come on. Is this really that big of a deal? You're talking about wiping down some baseboards with vinegar water, that takes like ten minutes. Your girlfriend probably wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't tell her it was a thing. I tried the same stupid dryer sheet trick in my bathroom and yeah, it left some weird greasy feeling on the trim but it's not like I'm eating dinner off the baseboards. Give it a quick wipe, crack a window, and carry on with your life. People act like they ruined their whole apartment with a little fabric softener residue.

Nah man, greasy residue collects dust and looks nasty after a week, you're wrong on this one.
