Trying to fit a new extractor on a 1911 slide had me stuck for a whole afternoon
Honestly, I was replacing a worn extractor on a Springfield Armory frame and the new part just would not seat flush, no matter how much I filed. Ngl, it took me like four hours to realize the tensioning leg was contacting a tiny burr inside the extractor channel that I couldn't even see. Has anyone else found a good trick for spotting those hidden obstructions without a borescope?

Ugh, those hidden burrs are the worst. Try a bright flashlight from the breech end, sometimes the shadow gives it away.

Flashlights just make you see MORE shadows, not the actual burr. Sometimes you just gotta run a patch through and feel for the snag.

Totally get that, the flashlight trick can play mind games for sure. Lucasm29 has a point about the angle though, even if it just shows more shadows like you said. Ended up just doing the patch test myself after staring at shadows for ten minutes.
