Rant: The old-timer at the supply house said he always uses a dab of dish soap in his cutting oil for plate glass.

Tried it on a tricky 48-inch cut yesterday and the blade ran cooler with way less chipping, so has anyone else got a weird little trick like that they swear by?

Yeah, the bar soap on a hacksaw blade thing. I read a forum post where a guy said he uses plain old candle wax for the same job, just rub it on. Claims it lasts longer than soap.

Ever hear about using a bar of soap on a hacksaw blade? My buddy was cutting some really tough conduit and his blade kept binding up. He rubbed an old dry bar of soap on the teeth, just a few passes, and it went through like butter after that. Said it was the quietest cut he'd ever made.

Always thought that was just an old wives' tale until my blade got stuck on some thick pipe. Tried the soap trick out of pure frustration and it actually worked. Couldn't believe how much smoother it cut, way less of that awful screeching sound too.
